Two Layers of Samadhi

“The concentration called right knowledge is that which is followed by reasoning, discrimination, bliss, unqualified ego.”
This part of Yoga can be related entirely to Samkhya Philosophy and the 25 Tattvas, however it is not essential for realising these states.
In Samkhya concentration the focus is on one or more of the other 24 tattvas, or merely from a dualistic standpoint, awareness of there being another.
Babies are not aware of self being separate and as this separation becomes clear or identified with the baby begins to attach to the external world.
Absorption with our physical awareness to a particular point or to put it differently, Samadhi with awareness of nature still abides in the delusion duality so union is not yet achieved.
Therefore the absorption is not complete as the Prusua still identifies at a secondary point.
Purusa does not abide in its own nature and aware of itself only, it is aware of the other.
This is the first stage and many humans would have had these deeper states. Later Patanjali breaks this fist stage down further into four categories in Chapter (Pada) three entitled “Expansion” where he relates the four categories of the first stage of Samadhi into their relevant siddhis.
Siddhis being used by the great sages on to advance their spiritual goal of Yoga - union.
18. णवयाभप्रत्यमाभ्यासऩवू ् य सस्कं ायशषेोऽन्य् ॥ १८॥ viramapratyayabhyasapoorvah sanskarashesho anyah
“There is another Samadhi which is attained by the constant practice of cessation of all mental activity, in which the Citta retains only the unmanifested impressions. Here Purusa is aware of itself only.”
Imagine a dot, the source. Yet this source is literally blissfully unaware of it Self. It is effulgent in it’s beingness of realisation - God realised or enlightened, so much so that many, many others can ‘feel’ it.
This is Samadhi of the second stage.
In the Swami tradition these stages are declared not by the Seer himself but by his fellows, peers and other Saints.
Guru’s who declare themselves realised are just that.
Yet many Sannyasins, Nath Yogis, Sadhakas, other traditions such as Tantra and those of the Swami traditions do give of a perfective quality that is tangible, this however is remarked as entirely different. Full Sattva, Effulgent, Pure, Awareness.
Applied Practices
Truth {Direct evidence from those who lead the way}
Two clear stages of Samadhi with altered states are referred to again and again by Patanjali and Vyasa and other stated by those who wrote of Christ and the Buddha.
Inference {Logic / Reasoning}
How can I begin to gain insight and inference to the subtle body and physical body by sense withdrawal and the cessation of mind? Start to practice with the subtle body experience and increase your practice to uncover the deeper capabilities in meditation.
If we let go or begin to tap into what is beyond the worldly senses, what happens? Like the quantum theory and biology, where and how do they meet?
Experience {Practice}
Practice what brings your body, mind and stillness in action together.
Yoga nidra - psychic sleep connect with the delta and theta hertz 0.5 - 4 and then theta 3.5 - 7.5
Or like Guruji would say “Try falling asleep.”
What happens at those awakened states of deep deep relaxation.
Let’s Discuss
We meet up once a week on Zoom to discuss the Applied Practices - it’s free, join us!
