How to control the Vrttis - Thought forms
12. अभ्यासवैयाग्माभ्यां तणियोध् ॥ १२॥
abhyasavairagyabhyan tannirodhah
“Their control is by practice and non-attachment.”
By observing them and allowing them to be as they are whilst taking our attention elsewhere. The aspirant has to decipher and integrate how ‘control’ is understood and activated inside themselves. For Example if control is perceived as harsh they will exercise that harshness or if their control is seen as avoidance they will attempt to avoid and distract themselves.
The aspect of control is from concentrated Will - how is this cultivated into the individualised experience? By practice and awareness. I practice I observe the outcomes and continue as the vessel and the witness of the practices.
Non attachment is courageous when in motion and in the eye of the storm when still. Non attachment understands all time is here now, past and present must be integrated in the the illuminated wholeness of totality.
13. तत्र णस्थतौ मत्नोऽभ्यास् ॥ १३॥
tatra sthitau yatno abhyasah
“Continuous struggle to keep them (the Vrttis) perfectly restrained is practice.”
What is this practice? The attempt to restrain the mind in the Citta form, to prevent its going out into waves.
Waves, prakriti motion, energy outwards from you can lead to paranoia or anxiety. Learning to trust on a higher intention, self, consciousness awareness, encourages a real honest enquiry. Struggle is the practice.
Find a ‘way’ that works to bring a sense of peace and almost sleep like state.
Learn to stay centred and observe the mind’s absurdities and its own nature. Detach from cause or follow the the cause to its root like a scientist with a microscope. There is the spaciousness or truth, reality.
14. स तुदीघक य ारनय ै न्तमस य त्कायासणेवतो दृढबणूभ् ॥ १४॥
sa tu dirghakalanairantaryasatkarasevito dridha -bhoomih
“It’s ground becomes firm by long, constant efforts with great love”
(for the end to be attained). Great love, lotus feet of the Guru, a higher love, an unconditional love that permeates all of existence. That will be there when you fall, absorb surrender into it.
Nothing is possible without love - no thing. With love all is possible.
What do these statements mean?
15. दृष्टानश्रुणवकणवषमणवतष्णृ स्य वशीकायसऻं ा वय ै ाग्मभ ॥् १५॥
drishtanushravikavishayavitrishnnasy vashikara samjna vairagyam
“Dispassion (detachment) is the controlled consciousness of one who is without craving for sense objects.” - whether these are actually perceived or described or imagined.
In the centre there is light and shade, past and future, nuance, grey, fractals, entanglements moving through space time. Accept the mystic yet keep your hands in the dirt.
You are of body and come from spirit. You are of body and will go back to the whole.
In hale life , exhale existence.
Real love observes and projects outwards and magnetises to Self. Picture the Torus in motion.
Love does not take, want, desire or manipulate outcomes.
16. तत्पयं ऩरुुषख्यातगे ि युवत ै ष्ण्यृ भ ॥् १६॥
tatparan purushakhyatergunnavaitrishnyam
“That extreme non-attachment, giving up even the qualities, shows (the real nature of) the Purusa.”
Total non-attachment is experience through the portal of the Jiv Atman.
Arjuna said I only see the eye of the bird, shot his arrow and hit it - dead centre. All distractions were gone.
Inwardly by non-attmentment we fall into a concentrate of the illuminated deeper and deeper more and more centred.
3 Types of Pramana (correct knowledge)
Pratyaksha - experienced sense perception
Anumana - inference / logic
Agamah - direct evidence from those who came before, a yogi or one who knows
Applied Practices
Truth {Direct evidence from those who lead the way}
Dispassion and non attachment are realities to experience that bring about unconditional love and life in motion whilst residing in Purusa - source.
Inference {Logic / Reasoning}
If I become more of the observer I will see more, more connections more, movement, more stillness more space more more more.
Experience {Practice}
Practice Inhale life, exhale existence.
Create a safe space to practice trust in Self
What is a higher Self to you as a projection - a sage, a love feeling, nature?
