Two Waveforms of Perception during Concentration
3. तदा द्रष्ट्ुस्वरूऩऽेवस्थानभ ॥् ३॥
“tada drashtuh svaroope avasthanam”
“When it is accomplished (Yoga) the Seer abides in its own true nature.”
Waveform perception one is absolut union. Non-dual reality.
At that time (the time of meditative absorption arrived at through single pointed focus), the seer (the Purusa) rests in his own (unmodified) state.
Imagine following the rings inside a tree trunk until you get to the heart wood - the source point. Often represented as a triangle with a dot in the centre in Yantra geometry. The dot represents Purusa, the Absolutely reality or ‘Para - Atman’.
When abiding in this state of consciousness, you are like a crystal that reflects the colours and forms within it of any objects which are next to you, surrounding you.
Illuminating the inner Purusa, the source outwardly mirroring nature back on itself. But the crystal itself, is separate as is Purusa, unwavering, unperceivable, unknowable.
4. वणृत्तसारूप्यभ इ्तयत्र ॥ ४॥
“vrittisaroopyam itaratra”
“At other times (other than that of a fully absorbed mind) the seer is identified with the modifications.”
Waveform perception two is still aware of another - something separate from itself. Non-dual reality.
The crystal is no longer residing in itself and believes it is that which is reflected from it. Totally unconscious of its true nature.
The tree believes it is the sapwood, cambium cell layer, inner bark or outer bark, branches, leaves or even the weather system and landscape topography that surrounds it.
Yoga being to know this by the experiences of contemplation, concentration or union rather than by discourse, knowledge collection or rhetoric.
5 Cittas - mind states
Mudda Manas - Dull Mind
Kshiptha Manas - Restless Mind
Vikshipta Manas - Steady Mind
Ekagra Manas - One pointed Mind
Niruddha Manas - Fully concentrated Mind
Applied Practices
Truth {Wisdom beyond knowledge derived of thought or intellect}
Two fields of perception in deep states of meditation. One is absolute union the other is still residing in the waveforms or prakriti nature where perception is still aware of another therefore dual.
Patanjali’s 3rd sutra refers to singularity, the 4th duality.
Inference {Logic / Reasoning}
Being absorbed in the Absolute is total
Any movement away is mind duality
Experience {Practice}
Observe yourself in concentration - dual
Cultivate trust by slowly dissolving further into that which is observing by following the softness or surrender that arrives with each Breath - non dual
